Hard Water & Why It Is A Problem!

Hard water can leave soap behind, on your clothes, hair and other materials you come in contact with. The residue, the mineral deposits, can attach to your skin and cause moisture to be sucked out of your body. Resulting in itching, dryness, and discomfort.


The more obvious problem it can cause from scale deposits is the clogging of the very pipes it is transferred through. This is a problem due to the fact that blocked pipes can lead to water and sewage back-ups in the home. They can cause damage and require trained plumbers to fix, which can be expensive.


Ever had issues where you had to constantly clean soap scum off the sides or edges of bathtubs, sinks, or on your shower tiles? That is an indication you are facing hard water issues. It can also linger on glasses and dishes that come out of the dishwasher, in form of white spots.

The scum itself is built up through the minerals in hard water that do not lather well when introduced to soap. The issue with this is that soap scum has the possibility of having microbial biofilm that lives in showers and spreads bacteria that make you sick.

The iron is being drawn into the water system from the deteriorating pipes in your plumbing. The stains themselves is disturbing and terrible to look at, especially when guests come over. The best way to reduce them is to use vinegar solutions. However, that isn’t a permanent solution since the stains will keep appearing till the root of the problem is fixed.


The biggest issue that lies with hard water is the expensive consequences it can have in your household. The hard water leaves scale deposits and thus shortening their life. The build-up of sediment and the deterioration of parts in the appliances leads to breakdowns, poor efficiency. Can results in higher water bills. Equipment such as dishwashers, kettles, refrigerators are subjected to this sort of damage.


Then there is more direct concern from having hard water flowing. Among the water, there are chlorine and other chemicals that can enter the bloodstream and cause problems for your respiratory tract. For instance, the Canadian Cancer Society recommends removing chlorine and chloramine from tap water since it can cause health risks, including some cancers.
