BACKWATER VALVE INSTALLATION
At Drain 1 Plumbers, we provide professional backwater valve installation to help protect homes and businesses from sewer backups and basement flooding. Our experienced technicians install code-compliant, city-approved systems designed to perform reliably during heavy rainfall and sewer surcharging.
When municipal sewer systems become overloaded, wastewater can flow back toward your property. A properly installed backwater valve acts as a critical safeguard, helping prevent sewage from entering your basement. Our team manages the entire process including permits, inspections, and final testing to ensure your system operates safely and effectively.
Owners of single-family, duplex, triplex, and fourplex residential properties may be eligible to apply for municipal subsidy programs to help offset installation costs. We assist our customers in meeting program requirements and guide them through the rebate process.

How a Backwater Valve Helps Prevent Basement Flooding
During heavy rainfall, the sanitary sewer system can become overwhelmed by excess rainwater. When this happens, wastewater may be forced to flow backward through sewer lines and enter basement drains, leading to flooding.
A backwater valve is designed to stop this from happening. Under normal conditions, the valve remains open, allowing wastewater from toilets, showers, sinks, and other fixtures to flow freely from your home into the municipal sewer system.
If the sewer system becomes overloaded and wastewater begins to reverse direction, the backwater valve automatically closes. This blocks the backward flow and helps protect your basement from sewage backup. Once the rain event ends and the sewer system returns to normal, the valve reopens, allowing wastewater to drain as usual.
